The greatest risk while driving is the sheer unpredictability of events on the road. Potential hazards wait around every corner. If you are a taxicab or public transportation operator, hazards may be inside your vehicle as well. With up to 4 high resolution color cameras, GPS, infrared night-vision, up to 3 minutes of pre-alarm recording, and SDHC flash storage (up to 32GB), the BX4000 series is as technologically sophisticated as it is practical. Smarty offers to both commercial and private vehicle operators an effective risk reducing means to aid in the investigation process, decrease collateral damages associated with car accidents, deter crime inside the vehicle, and improve driving behaviors.
Smarty, an in-vehicle EDR (Event Data Recorder), makes constant recordings of video footage using a 'first-in' 'first-out' method. In the event of an accident or triggered alarm recording, the Smarty 'flags' these files so they do not delete when the SD card becomes full. When the Smarty is triggered by 12V alarm, the recording begins up to 3 minutes prior the trigger activation (time is adjustable). These videos may later be viewed for surveillance purposes or evidence in an investigation, providing concrete evidence for clarifying responsibility. The Smarty provides an easy user interface to extract the data from the unit and transfer to a computer. Our unique software is compatible with any version of Windows, which makes it effortless to view and save video files to your PC. With the click of your mouse, you can convert videos to AVI format for easy playback in almost any media player.
Drive Recorder
The main recording unit, or brain, of the BX4000 system is only 4" x 2.75" x 0.75". There is an internal microphone, accelerometer, and SD storage (up to 32GB). The BX3000 has two 5V camera inputs and one component video input. The BX4000 has three 5V camera inputs and one component video input. There is a video out, microphone out, GPS input and power connection as well. Another features of the BX4000 is the 3 alarm triggers. Alarm triggers allow users to connect to 12V power sources to record certain events, such as rear door opening (i.e. connect one trigger to dome light). another common trigger is the brake. Alarm trigger names are customized in the PC software, these names will display on the playback video and AVI file.
GPS
One of the most important features of the BX series is the data derived from GPS. Time, Date, Vehicle speed, direction of travel, latitude/longitude coordinates, and altitude are all securely saved to a separate log file on the SD card. The PC viewer software provides an easy way to visualize this data and the AVI converter allows this data to be overlaid on the video image, even on a DVD. The data is sampled from GPS satellites once per second, so it is extremely accurate. There is no monthly charge for this feature.
Remote
The BX4000 has a wired remote that allows users to manually activate the BX recording. Two LED indicator lights allow the user to see the DVR and recording status. The remote also doubles as a way to navigate the BX playback functions when an LCD is connected.
DTR-100, wide angle CMOS camera
The DTR-100 is one of many cameras available for the BX4000. Covering an astounding 170° field of view, the DTR-100 is a great choice for users who want to record a large area in the front and rear of the outside of the vehicle. The DTR-100 is extremely small in stature, and can be used in covert applications.
STR-100IR, Infrared CCD camera
The STR-100IR is an excellent choice for night-time video recording inside the vehicle. The STR-100IR uses a 120° angle Sony lens, 4 built-in LEDs, and day/night sensor that automatically activates the infrared when it's needed. This camera is also available without infrared LEDs and a 90° lens, model # STR-100.
STR-220IR, Weather resistant infrared camera
The STR220IR allows users to mount cameras on the exterior of a vehicle without the worry of malfunction in the rain. The STR-200, STR-220, STR-220IR are all IP67 rated to withstand the elements. The new STR-131 is an IP68 rated wide angle CMOS camera, perfect for use as a rear backup cam.
DSM-720, 7in LCD Display with built-in speakers
The DSM-720 is an LED back-lit 12V LCD monitor. Using this monitor with a BX3000 or BX4000 system allows you to playback recorded videos in the vehicle and also see the live preview of one camera at a time. Many BX customers use the DSM-720 and a mirrored rear camera as a back-up camera solution.
SLB-100, steel locking case mount
The SLB-100 adds a layer of security to the BX4000 units. Each box has a key lock which prevents tampering of the internal SD card. It also provides an easier way to hard-mount the BX units to the vehicle. Each SLB-100 comes with internal foam padding to resist shock and vibration and edge guards to protect camera and power cables.
Playback software for Windows OS (XP and up)
The sophistacted, yet user friendly PC viewer software allows you to playback recorded video files from your SD card. The PC viewer software uniquely displays video, GPS data and location, and G-sensor readings, simultaneously. Google Maps is embedded in the user interface and will follow your driving route alongside the video and audio playback. Other features include: Exporting to Google Earth, AVI file conversion, Printable accident reports, data backup, log file analysis, and more.
Questions:
Below is a list of commonly asked questions by our customers. If your question is not answered, feel free to contact us!
- How much data can the SMARTIE store on the SD card?
- A: Storage times depend on numerous factors, such as: SD card size, FPS (frames per second), video resolution, and video quality. All of these are selectable options in the Smarty software settings. Below is a table of recording times.
- What size SD card is included and what size can I upgrade to?
- A: A SD 4GB card included with the BX3000/4000. The SMARTIE is compatible with a 32GB SD card. Class 6 is recommended for SDHC cards (SDHC refers to High Capacity SD Cards from 4GB - 32GB).
- Does SMARTIE record audio?
- A: Yes, the BX4000 records audio.. Audio recording can be turned off in the PC viewer settings.
- How do I install SMARTIE?
- A: The Smarty comes with a strong 3M adhesive mount for mounting the small camera to your windshield. The ring mount is adjustable to any angle windshield. Instructions are also detailed in the user guide included with the device. When installed on an electric vehicle you will need the optional 36—48VDC HVC high voltage converter.
- The SMARTIE comes standard with a 12V cigar jack adaptor. Adhesive wire clips are included to help neatly run the wire to the power source. There is also an available power supply that runs directly to your vehicle's fusebox---this inexpensive power supply option is recommended for commercial applications.
- How do I view the video from the SD card?
- A: The first thing you should do when you receive your SMARTIE unit is to insert the SD card into your PC and install the PC viewer software---which is installed FREE on the SD card. After software install to your PC------once you have videos recorded on your SD card (either by shock impact or pressing the manual "record" button) you can remove the SD card from the SMARTIE unit and use the PC viewer software to view the selected videos. It is remarkably easy to use. GPS location, speed and Gforce is all synced with up to 4 different views of the camera.
- How do I adjust the settings for the DVR?
- A: Insert the SD card into your PC and open the PC viewer software. Click the settings icon within the PC viewer software and adjust the settings to your liking.
- How do I put my SMARTIE video on DVD and what happens to the GPS and impact data?
- A: Once you have loaded your video files with the PC viewer software you can convert the videos to AVI format. AVI format is a standard media format that can be played back with standard media players such as Windows Media Player, VLC, and more. AVI format is also easy to convert to DVD format. Video converter programs such as AVS Video Converter can convert AVI to DVD for free.
- I see “pre-record” as a featured function. How does the SMARTIE record video prior to the impact?
- A: The SMARTIE is always recording, but constantly overwriting itself...unless it is told to record via shock impact or manually pressing the red record button. When the SMARTIE is triggered above the impact sensitivity level setting (adjustable in 3 axis) to record, it simply saves the previous video, up to 20 seconds, to memory.
- How Does “pre-record” work if I set my unit to record continuously and not just via shock impact?
- A: A shock impact or pressing the red record button will simply flag these video files as "emergency". This makes it easy to locate time/date stamped events when viewing files on the PC viewer software.
- How can I prevent tampering with the video event data in the SD card?
- A: The BX3000/4000 has a ventilated steel locking enclosure available that comes with keys, please contact us for pricing and more information.
